Note From Pastor:

Church Family

As you have likely heard, the Governor has modified his restrictions on “Communities of Worship” (his words).   Your Leadership Team is working on how best to address the re-opening of church and all of the issues related to doing so.  Let me assure you, there is no desire to rush back into a building just to prove a point.  What we are doing now with use of all the media sources and resources is working on a temporary basis.  No one wants to take steps which may place the congregation in jeopardy nor cause others not to worship.  The Governor’s modification of the Executive Order contain several restrictions which we must address.  These include:  Prohibiting those 65 years of age or older from entering the building; restricting access of high risk persons; wearing of face coverings; social distancing of 6 feet or more (no handshaking, hugging, kissing, etc); limit the service to ONLY one hour, one day a week with only 30% occupancy (for us, 94 persons at a time); staggering services and entry/arrival times; complete cleaning between services; limitations on singing; hand sanitizer, everywhere; no materials in the church (remove hymnals, Bibles, bulletins); no direct passing of the plate, limitations on the Sacraments; and many, many more.   As you can see, while the Governor touts the “re-opening” of churches, it will be very difficult for us to meet all of these restrictions.  We can’t even get sufficient supplies of hand sanitizer and cleaning elements to satisfy this process.  So – what are we going to do?  The Leadership Team is working on a plan – taking into consideration the statements of the Governor, the Bishop and the CDC – for re-opening.  Once the plan is prepared, debated and voted upon, we will re=open the church.  In the meantime – and perhaps even after we re-open the building – we will continue to broadcast Sunday services over the variety of media available to us.  We will continue to hold “drive up” church (rain or shine) until we return to the building.  We may even continue this after the building opens, if practicable.  Trust me when I tell you, I want to return to the building as soon as it is safe and practicable.  I simply cannot do so if it places persons in danger or if it acts to exclude worshippers.  I firmly believe we all have individual responsibility for our own safety.  These things are up to us, not the government nor the denomination.  But safety first it will be.  We will do all we can to continue the present worship opportunities throughout the week and on Sundays.  Pray for your leadership team and all of those involved in this decision-making process.  And remember:  we don’t have to be inside a building to worship our God.  Corporate worship will continue in every way we can.  We ask for your patience and prayer during this challenging time.  Peace.  Pb.
